The CorruptCare Scandal Keeps Getting Worse
LeGrange must resign based on details from Athana Mentzelopoulos's statement of claim
It’s been a busy week in the CorruptCare scandal. Shocking details from the fired Alberta Health Services CEO’s statement of claim indicate that she faced pressure to sign sweetheart deals for surgical services, at costs higher than the public system could perform the same work
.This is more than a waste of tax dollars, but it means fewer people can get hip and knee surgeries for the same spending. That means waiting lists expanded.
Indeed, Danielle Smith in her press conference yesterday confirmed that she saw no problem with her former chief of staff calling Ms. Mentzelopoulos repeatedly regarding private surgical clinic contracts.
My position is clear. Adriana LeGrange must resign as health minister. If she doesn’t resign, Danielle Smith must fire her. Minister LeGrange cannot effectively investigate herself or her staff; therefore, your Alberta New Democrat caucus is calling for an independent public inquiry headed by a judge.
Additionally any person named in Mentzelopoulos’s statement of claim and implicated in CorruptCare allegations must step aside while the independent, transparent public inquiry proceeds. And, all private surgical procurements must stop until we get to the bottom of these CorruptCare allegations.
Premier Danielle Smith has done none of these things. Here’s Naheed Nenshi’s short video on how the premier can restore trust in her and our health care.
Your health and your tax dollars deserve nothing less.
