The highest inflation in Canada. Lowest wage growth. Real wages declining. Car insurance going up by 15%, and it will be more if you buy a new car or switch providers. The lowest per-student funding for schools in Canada. Expanding private clinics and two-tier medicine. Smith is both increasing personal taxes and delivering less for the taxes we pay.
Danielle Smith is making life harder for Albertans. Just as we feared.
Even worse, Smith has given up even pretending to govern. This legislative session that just ended had zero bills to address affordability, one bill that raises your taxes through “bracket creep,” and one quarter of its bills to oppress children’s and parent’s human rights.
It’s a dark time, my friends. But there’s also hope, because we can fight back. There are things we can do.
The first is to win the Lethbridge-West by-election convincingly. Rob Miyashiro will be a great representative for the people of Lethbridge and it’s important we get him into the NDP caucus. If you want to help, sign up for a calling campaign to get out the vote. Advanced polls are open in Lethbridge tomorrow (Tuesday)!
Let’s send Danielle Smith and the UCP a message. Danielle Smith’s losing this by-election will tell her that Albertans think she’s on the wrong track.
Secondly, we need to get our message out. Whether it’s about gerrymandering or the never-seen-before-in-Canada no-fault, privately delivered auto insurance scheme, or even facts you know like the $80 million wasted on Turkish Tylenol and $1.3 billion pipeline to nowhere, people won’t know unless we tell them. And campaigns to tell people the truth cost money. (Sadly, lies are free).
Your donation will help me tell people in Calgary-Elbow the truth: Danielle Smith is failing, her government is focused on the wrong priorities, and she’s doing nothing to help people with the grinding affordability crisis we are all facing right now.
Let’s make a difference.
Any other ideas? I want to hear them. I will be hosting a pub night at Marda Loop Brewing on Thursday, December 19 at 7 pm.
Or just send me an email or post a comment here. I’d love to hear from you.
