Certainly, if this is the only event you attend this summer, it is going to be the most engaging, engrossing, enthusiastic evening you won’t want to miss.
Whether you’ve been a member for decades or you are brand new to our movement, we need your help to build a better future for all Albertans. Health care that works. Schools that teach our kids to thrive. A prosperous future for Alberta. If these matter to you, please attend.
Join me and the Calgary-Elbow NDP for our annual general meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June at Windsor Park Community Association.
We will take care of a little important business and elect a new executive, and it is also a great opportunity to meet, and even be part of, the team working toward winning the next election!
And, of course, there will be an opportunity for you to financially contribute to winning government in 2027 and making a better Alberta possible.
This meeting is for Alberta NDP members only. You can renew or sign up for your membership here.
Please RSVP if you are planning to attend. I hope to see you there!
Please Help the Province Draw Fair Electoral Boundaries
Changes to provincial law in the fall of 2024 increased the number of constituencies in our province from 87 to 89 for the next general election coming in 2027.
As a result, the government has called a commission to redraw the electoral boundaries.
This process is fundamental to democracy and you can help the commission understand the significance of your community by participating in an upcoming public meeting.
You don’t need to be an expert on anything! The commission wants to hear from ordinary Albertans who will share with them the story of their community and what makes it special.
Your voice matters and, as dry as this subject is, please know this process is a vital part of our democracy.
The time commitment will be minimal, so if you have about two hours to spare and would like to participate in a public meeting in Calgary on June 10 or June 11, please send us an email.
Measles Outbreak Worsening
Our province is in the midst of a very concerning measles outbreak. Despite calls for action from experts months ago the UCP government ignored the problem.
As of May 15, there were 409 reported cases in Alberta, the second highest number in the country. Of those, 116 were reported just last week.
Many of those who are sick are children and there are people in intensive care because of this terrible, preventable disease.
Please get immunized. Please get your children immunized. You may not know (because I did not) but two doses are required for complete immunity. At my age, I only received one as a child. So please look into whether a second dose is right for you.
Separatist Smith Risks Our Country
Danielle Smith wants Alberta to leave Canada and become the 51st state. Naheed Nenshi and I will fight this with everything that we have.
Her playbook is clear: pick fights with Ottawa, stir up grievances when her unreasonable demands aren’t met, and use the rage she has farmed to distract from her own failures as a premier.
Albertans won't stand for it. There’s a big difference between legitimate differences of opinion on equalization and the role of oil and gas in our economy, versus taking our maple leaf away.
Canada is special. My parents, moving here in the 1960s, built a life here that couldn’t be built anywhere else in the world, and nobody is taking this away from me without a fight.
Add your name to the host of others who want Separatist Danielle Smith to put her separatism back in the closet, where it belongs.
